Regional Director Southeast

Caroline Efstathion, Ph.D., is the Southeast Regional Director for VDCI where she is responsible for overseeing mosquito abatement programs in the southeast of the United States. She received her doctorate in entomology from the University of Florida. Before joining VDCI, she worked at Volusia County Mosquito Control where she headed up their research and arbovirus surveillance programs. She also worked at Anastasia Mosquito Control as their molecular entomologist, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as a mosquito control outreach specialist for the Northeast region, and was a microbiology professor at St. Johns’ River State College and Florida Atlantic University. She is currently the Vice-President of the Georgia Mosquito Control Association and the Co-chair of the National Environmental Health Association’s Vector Committee.

With seven years of experience in the pest control industry, beginning in commercial sales, and holding a pest control license, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. She has over 35 years of experience in sales and has lived and traveled from Alaska to Europe, cultivating a deep appreciation for culture and food. As a business development manager, she partners with clients to develop or support integrated mosquito management programs in the communities they serve. Her role involves collaborating with local governments, businesses, and organizations to implement science-based mosquito control strategies that protect public health and enhance quality of life. By leveraging advanced technologies and data-driven approaches, she helps clients create customized solutions that effectively manage mosquito populations and reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases.
